One of Birmingham’s prime industrial schemes has started the year with a bang – becoming fully occupied after securing two new tenants – bringing major investment and new jobs to the city.
SEGRO has successfully leased the remaining two units at its Meteor Park development in Aston, Birmingham. The new lettings, which total more than 170,000 sq ft, secure 100% occupancy at the Park, which, as at SEGRO’s June 2011 half year, was 75% vacant.
Pointbid Logistics Systems Ltd has signed a five-year lease for unit 3, which measures 58,609 sq ft, after relocating from premises in nearby Sparkbrook. The move came after the company won a major contract with Royal Mail to deliver e-fulfillment services.
Pointbid Logisitics Systems will be working with Internet traders, who only deal with the sales and marketing side of their business, to provide a pick, pack and dispatch operation.
As part of the relocation, the company’s 25-strong workforce will move to the new unit in Aston and is set to create a further 25 jobs as the Royal Mail contract develops.
Jane Leedham, leasing manager for SEGRO, said: “We are thrilled to announce that Meteor Park is now fully let. At the end of 2011 the media and industry were all doom and gloom and talking of another difficult year ahead in 2012, but for Meteor Park this certainly isn’t the case.
“Logistics is a sector that will continue to thrive, especially as online shopping is becoming increasingly popular with consumers. We hope that Pointbid’s partnership with Royal Mail continues to develop and wish them luck with their business expansion.”
Edward Rodriguez, financial director Pointbid Logistic Systems Ltd, said: “As a logistics company it is vital that our base is in a central location with good communication links to the major motorway networks. Meteor Park meets these criteria perfectly.
“The Royal Mail partnership is set to grow and grow and the unit provides ample space to accommodate our expanding workforce and storage requirements. We look forward to a prosperous future at Meteor Park.”
To seal SEGRO’s final deal at Meteor Park, a major automotive company signed a 10-year lease for unit 4. At 115,067 sq ft, it is the largest of the four units on the site and is the first letting of this size in Birmingham for many months.
Jane added: “The fact that an automotive company has taken our largest unit shows that the sector is still strong in Birmingham and there continues to be a demand for large units above 100,000
sq ft.”
The two companies join existing tenants EOS Works Limited (formerly trading as Fourstar Employment & Skills Ltd) and PHS Datasafe at the Park.
Meteor Park is located on Argyle Street, off Cuckoo Road in Aston, Birmingham. The site is adjacent to Junction 6 of the M6 and approximately three miles from Birmingham city centre.
